We can finally announce that the upgraded version of www.westerncapebirding.co.za will be ready to launch on Monday 8 July and we will introduce it to members at our club meeting that evening. It will take about a further month to put all the 'bells and whistles' in place to then have a fully operational and more user friendly website. Social media will also be utilised in future and we are currently getting training for this. The hope is expressed that these developments will take the marketing of the Western Cape Province as a top birding destination to much improved levels. Kindly join me on Facebook so that you can receive news as it becomes available.
We have received the next print-run of BirdLife Overberg's four identification brochures on the 'Common Birds of the Western Cape Province' kindly sponsored by club member Chris Neethling. These brochures are proving to be very popular with both learners and novice adult birders and our aim now is to disseminate it to more schools, particularly in outlying areas. Kindly consider sponsoring the brochures for distribution to schools in your area. It is available at R 1.50 per copy and can be ordered from us directly.
Members of the BirdLife Overberg committee have launched a new campaign to raise funds for conservation projects of the club's choice. They are developing a triangular, full colour 15 page desk calender for 2014 - the focus will fall on 15 threatened bird species in South Africa. They have managed to source fantastic photographs and Keir Lynch is drafting text describing conservation problems facing these birds. These calenders should be hugely successful. There is a great opportunity to sponsor some of the pages of the calender. Kindly contact Elaine at 082 455 8402 in this regard.
Best of birding.
